Things to Stop Doing to Yourself: Part 4

I hope that the previous Things to Stop Doing to Yourself Part 1, 2, and 3 were enjoyable! But I want to add ANOTHER installment. Yeah, yeah, you might be thinking, “holy cow another one,” but they are too good not to share! Here it goes!

  1. Stop focusing on what you don’t want to happen. Focus on what you do want to happen. Positive thinking is at the core of all great success stories. If you wake up anticipating something good to happen, more than likely, even if small, something good will come to light.
  2. Stop worrying so much. Worry does nothing but add more stress to the current stress load. Thinking about all the worry will strip you from the good right in front of you. Honestly, will it really matter a year from now? If no, stop sweating it and take your mind on positive.
  3. Stop blaming others for your troubles. The extent to which you achieve is proportionate to the extent you take responsibility for yourself. When you blame others, you deny responsibility. Doing that gives others power over that area in your life.
  4. Stop trying to make things perfect. The only true perfection is God and we are most definitely not Him. If you critique every work, you’ll waste your life away. And furthermore, the real world does not reward perfectionists, but instead those who get things done.
  5. Stop running from your problems. Face them! Of course they won’t be easy. Great victories don’t come from every battle being easy. And we’re not supposed to be able to solve every problem instantly; that’s not how we’re designed. Besides, struggles allow us to learn, grow, adapt, mature, and become more fully who we are meant to be. Though a hard task, facing your problems, your rewards will be better than all those problems.

Spring Break Packing List

This year, like last, I am traveling to the beautiful and sensational Florida Keys. The islands and reefs will be the prettiest you’ll see around, and the rich culture you will crave to soak in. That, along with beautiful sun to take in.

Only 2 days away, I actually haven’t started packing yet, but my friend that’s coming with us asked what to bring, since she has never been to the glorious place. So, I figured I would share that information with you. Even if it’s not necessarily helpful for you, at least it can get you excited for the fun to come!

The things to bring for the best time ever:

A couple, or several bathing suits. The outside is my best friend during Spring Break. Bring a variety; sporty for activities, bandeaus for tanning, bikinis for walking around with a light coverup on. Down in the Keys, bathing suits are pretty much considered clothing. So do it right. For more information, Check out my blog post about wearing the right bathing suit to suit your body!

Sun tan lotion and proper moisturizer. I bring a ton of lotion with aloe in it. It’s my favorite and it helps a lot since the sun is more intense down there. My personal favorite is Banana Boat Lotion with Aloe. It’s my staple and has preserved my tan long after the sun! Although a tad pricey, usually running around $6-8 depending on where you go, it will be an investment. Goes a long way, feels great and soothes skin, and it smells nice too. But at Target, it’s on sale!!! Check out these other good lotions at Target too!

Pool hat and/or some other hat. I bring a huge pool hat for the days I want to read by the pool without straining my eyes and then a small little snapback guy for the beach. I got one down there last year with my name on it with neon colors, and I’m obsessed. Trust me, it’s a water thing, and it’s great to have one. Or even a cute Fedora! Fedora’s are ultra chic and cool.

Shopping bag (over the shoulder). You need one with a good strap. Too skinny and it will kill you, eh! I’ve had that happen. So while you’re wandering the Duval Street with the shops or looking at coastal antique stores, bringing the right bag can save your stuff, and your shoulder!

Beach reads (although it’s not a big beach since the keys are mainly reefs, for the beach club bring books or magazines). I like bringing reads because it’s relaxing and it can keep you occupied. Catch up on your celebrity reads or classic novels; my reading will have both!

Down by the Shore

Down by the Shore

Sun dresses, shorts, tanks, etc. Bring some easy, breezy outfits that require minimum maintenance. When you’re done in the water and are rushing to dinner with your friends, the last thing you need to worry about it ironing or second guessing your outfit choice. Light materials are the best and try to avoid dark colors if you’re trying to stay cool since dark colors absorb the heat.

Wherever you’re going on Spring Break, remember the essentials! And to add to that, be aware of your surroundings, keep your stuff close to you and don’t get completely swept away in the scenery. You still need to be safe after all.

But go! Have fun! Where are you going? Know anything else I need?

As always, be blessed, and this time, be extra sunny!

Bathing Suits to Suit You the Best!

Can you feel it in the air? The sunshine and warmth floating through the breeze and kissing your skin? SPRING IS HERE! And I don’t know about you, but I am darn glad that the sun and great weather is out from behind the clouds. But as this time of  year comes, not everyone is ready to face the beach and feel completely confident. Trust me, I have been victim to this too. But there is hope! Sometimes, just a little adjustment in what type of bathing suit you wear can actually make a difference, even making you feel so much more ready! So, with that being said, take a look at these tips to find the best suit for you.

Bust Increase: embellishments will pump up the volume- or at least create that optical illusion

Look for

  • gathering detail
  • RUFFLES, RUFFLES, and more RUFFLES
  • “Enhancing tops”

Bust Support: coverage is the best and sometimes you need that help keeping everything in place!

Look for

  • underwires
  • boning at sides (strong elastic band)
  • banded halter

Emphasize Curves: for those who can and feel comfortable, go on with your bad self! Hugging your curves and drawing attention to them is an easy thing to do.

Look for

  • princess seaming
  • same color print top and bottom
  • cut out one piece

Minimize Curves: thicker straps minimize hugging too tight to your body and tankinis can elongate your torso, slimming the appearance of your body.

Look for

  • thicker straps
  • full coverage
  • v- neck tops
  • sporty suits

Lengthen Body: perhaps if you are petite or simply want to make your body look longer, having a higher waistline provides the optical illusion that your legs are longer. Try it on for size!

Look for

  • bottoms sitting slightly higher on hips
  • thinner sides
  • higher waistline

What are you waiting for?! Hit the beach, lake, river, or whatever with confidence! Honestly, YOU GOT THIS! Strut your stuff and feel great doing it. Even if your body is something of an issue, slowly but surely you can build confidence. Take the spring and summer by storm. You are beautiful and wonderfully made; you have something great to offer to the world! Have fun and enjoy life!

So I know I didn’t cover everything, but I covered some body styles! If you have a body type that I didn’t cover, comment and let me know and I will add those too! I want to know what you think and what you are looking for. Please, if you have any more tips, share!

Put on your shades, lather up, and live abundantly.

Classic Must See Movies!

It seems like lately the majority of movies have lost old film making charm. With all the special effects and streamlining celebrity actors, we now lean on more of the skills we can build with computers and actors that bring in crowds just because of their name, not always because of their raw acting ability.

That’s why I’m writing today, to remind you of the BEST films. In the warm summer nights, watch some of these timeless movies to bring all those warm feelings back ;)

  • Pretty in Pink. 1986. This is a story of a poor girl that must choose between the affections of her doting childhood sweetheart and a rich but sensitive playboy. Overcoming personal obstacles and finding true love are the themes throughout this movie. Molly Ringwald, the main actress, starred in several of these blockbuster, feel-good 80s movies. Look it up, great acting.

Image

  • The Breakfast Club. 1985. Five high school students, all different stereotypes, meet in detention, where they pour their hearts out to each other, and discover how they have a lot more in common than they thought. There’s a rebel, a jock, a princess, a freak, and a nerd. They all come together and create a strong bond. And I would even venture to say that this movie has one of the best film soundtracks ever created.

Image

  • Jaws. 1975. When a gigantic great white shark begins to menace the small island community of Amity, a police chief, a marine scientist and grizzled fisherman set out to stop it. With this breakthrough genre blockbuster, it set the scene for all future suspense movies, rocking box offices, and furthering the brand with 3 additional movies. WATCH THEM ALL. Won 3 Oscars. Another 9 wins & 13 nominations. They are easily my FAVORITE movies. That, along with my next classic must see choices!

Image

  • Indiana Jones: Raider of the Lost Ark. 1981. Archeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones is hired by the US government to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis. He also has a line of movies, all in which you should see.

Image

  • Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. 1986. A high school wise guy is determined to have a day off from school, despite of what the principal thinks of that. He has great experiences, like signing and having a party during the parade, catching a baseball at a big baseball game, and more. The ultimate right of passage adventure movie. And who doesn’t love Matthew Broderick??

So, go out, watch these AMAZING movies, and I promise you won’t regret it.

As always, be blessed.

Things to Stop Doing to Yourself: Part 3

That’s right! Another installment of Things to Stop Doing to Yourself. Hope you enjoy!

  1. Stop spending time with the wrong people. Life is too short to waste your time with people who suck all the happiness out of you. If someone wants you in their life, they will make room; you wouldn’t have to fight for a spot. Never insist on spending time with people who continuously look over your worth or don’t put value on you.
  2. Stop lying to yourself. You can lie to anyone else in the world, but you can’t lie to yourself. Our lives improve only when we take chances, and the first and most difficult chance we take is to be honest with ourselves. Think of it as The Road Less Traveled.
  3. Stop trying to be someone you’re not. You are extremely unique, so stop trying to copy and morph yourself into someone else or something you’re not. Don’t change so people will like you. Be yourself.
  4. Stop berating yourself for old mistakes. We may end up falling for the wrong person or get emotional about the wrong things, but no matter how things go wrong, but in all that happens, mistakes make us better. We learn, we grow, and we more fully develop into the person we are meant to be. Your mistakes do not define you.
  5. Stop exclusively looking to others for happiness. If you’re not happy with yourself, you won’t be happy otherwise. Don’t look to people for happiness; happiness comes from within, not man. You need stability inside before you can share it with someone else.

Bookworm in the Making

taken by Nicolette Bilezikian of Nicolette Arielle Photography

With 2013 well under way, I plan to be more diligent in reading books. I’ve always enjoyed it but rarely have time for it. So instead, I am making time and being more intentional with my spare time. In the spring/summer session, these are the books and/or authors that are on my “to do” list!

  • F Scott Fitzgerald. Author of “The Beautiful and Damned,” “The Great Gatsby,” and he’s even the author of the Star Bangled Banner! I recently purchased a collection of his stories from year 1920-22, which is actually shown in the picture above. I want to read the entire thing as well as “The Great Gatsby,” which isn’t in the book I purchased. But Fitzgerald WILL happen. He’s historic, iconic, and completely classic. If he’s not on your book list, he needs to be added. OH. And did I mention it’s bring turned INTO A MOVIE. WITH LEO. If you weren’t sold you should be now!

  • Anna Karenina by Leo TolstoyLeo Tolstoy’s classic story of doomed love is one of the most admired novels in world literature. Generations of readers have been enthralled by his magnificent heroine, the unhappily married Anna Karenina, and her tragic affair with dashing Count Vronsky. With such great words and being turned into a movie as well, it is a must read. Even won an Oscar last night for costume design.

  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin. Gasp! I know, I haven’t read it yet but I am going to! It is timeless, and crazy intertwining of characters and their love.
  • Circle Maker by Mark Batterson. This book is what it looks like to dream God’s dream for your life.  How to claim the promises of God over your life and to circle it physically, in your prayer life, and in your passions. It helps you discover the course of your dreams but giving them to God. Great reviews, and I’ve heard him speak and what a man!
  • Undaunted by Christine Caine. This book talks about being unleashed from the ordinary, mundaneness of life and discovering what chains you and how to go for more.

There is so much life in books. It gives you inspiration, an inside to other lives and cultures, and gives you a yearning for the great adventure of life.

These are just some of the great reads I will be accomplishing very soon! If you have any other suggestions for books to read, PLEASE let me know! I really want to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

As always, be blessed.
